Th-232 is an optimal choice for calibrating Radiacode devices, as it offers the three calibration points required to calibrate at energy levels of 65, 583, and 2614 keV. We provide a procedure for Radiacode calibration using thoriated glass on our Blog.

Thoriated glass is a material used in the manufacture of optical systems, specifically photographic lenses. It is favored for this process due to its high refractive index. Thoriated glass is radioactive due to the inclusion of thorium dioxide, the oxide of the radioactive element thorium. It has since been succeeded by materials such as lanthanum oxide. Thoriated glass can contain up to 30% thorium by weight. Over time, thoriated glass develops a brown tint, which reduces transmission and interferes with neutral color reproduction; this tint can be removed by exposure to UV light.

Geiger counters and coin are not included.
