This specimen is a vintage camera lens extracted from a pre-1970s Canon assembly. These lenses were manufactured using thorium dioxide (ThO2) can containing up to 30% thorium by weight—to achieve the high refractive index and low dispersion required for professional optics.

Over time, this lens may have developed a characteristic yellow, amber, or brown tint caused by decades of self-irradiation. This discoloration can be mitigated, if desired, by exposing the glass to ultraviolet (UV) light.

This item is sold specifically as a radiation check source for testing and calibrating Geiger counters, scintillators, and gamma spectroscopy equipment. It provides a consistent and stable source of alpha, beta, and gamma emissions.

Spectroscopy Utility: Thorium is an ideal calibration source for devices like the Radiacode series, as it provides the three critical data points required for accurate calibration at 88 keV, 583 keV, and 2614 keV.
