This specimen was stabilized with Paraloid B-72, a consolidant commonly used in the field of mineral and fossil preservation. The stabilization process infuses the specimen with an acrylic polymer, resulting in a specimen that is less frangible, halting any degradation that sandstone will normally suffer. The specimen may look like it's about to break, but it's been held in place by the consolidant.
