Zircon Double Crystal in Matrix - Kashmir, Pakistan
Size: 22x15x13mm
Weight: 6.2 Grams
Formula: Zr(SiO4)
43.14% Zirconium by mass
Locality: Skardu Area, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir Region, Pakistan
Glossy, rusty-amber zircon crystal pair in parallel growth from the disputed region of Kashmir, Pakistan. The larger, front-facing crystal dominates the specimen, while the smaller rear crystal gives it a symmetrical form. Both rest in a pale, granular matrix. Zircon may contain minor U, Th, Pb, Hf, Y/REE, P, and other trace elements. The smaller crystal can be better distinguished in the video.
Weakly Radioactive: This specimen averaged 165 CPM in a 30 CPM background (Radiacode 103), shown in the second picture. The 30 CPM background was achieved using the 3/8" thick lead shielding.
