2.9 Gram Stabilized Autunite / Meta-autunite Crystal with Organic Material in Perky Box
Size: 20x18x8mm
Approximate weight: 2.9 Grams
From: Huantai County, Zibo Shandong Provence China
This specimen of autunite features a preserved patch of dried dark reddish organic material that was once growing on its surface. This material can react with hydrogen peroxide, suggesting it may be a once-living biofilm—possibly a colony of oxidizing bacteria or fungi drawn to the phosphate matrix or moisture-retentive micro-environment. Since this specimen was stabilized, the organic material can no longer be removed without reversing the stabilization.
Perky box and a UV light source is included. The enclosed mineral card is removable.
This specimen was stabilized with Paraloid B-72, a commonly used conservation material in the field of mineral preservation, providing excellent protective qualities for stabilization and long-term conservation. The stabilization process results in a specimen that won’t fall apart over time like autunite normally can if neglected.
